Abstract
Background: Egyptian medicine enjoyed wide fame in the ancient world. The ancient Egyptians were the first to practice medicine on scientific grounds. Their medical books still attest to their excellence and superiority, and their medical prescriptions are engraved on the walls of temples. The oldest papyri have also reached us, whose value is due to the medical information they contain. Important. References to Egypt, Egyptian doctors, and Egyptian medical treatments were mentioned in classical writers, including the Greek poet Homer, in the Iliad and the Odyssey during the eighth century BC. Egypt was the focus of attention of students of science and knowledge, the most famous of whom was Herodotus, the Greek historian known as the Father of History, who visited it in the middle of the fifth century BC, and recorded his admiration for it and everything he saw, especially medicine and doctors, and praised the specialization of Egyptian medicine, its many branches, and the doctors and their diversity. Thus, the Greek references showed us the influence of the ancient Greeks on ancient Egyptian medicine and how its images were in the classical sources.
